Experiences

There's no itinerary at Owl's Watch. No schedule posted on a board. No activities director knocking on your door.

Some guests spend every dawn on the trails with our guide, binoculars raised. Others spend the day reading by the fire and soaking in the jacuzzi. Most people find their own rhythm somewhere in between β€” a morning walk, an afternoon nap, an evening watching the city lights appear in the valley below.

Everything here is an invitation, never an obligation.

Trails & Nature

Gently manicured trails wind through our mountain β€” from garden walks to deeper forest paths where the canopy closes overhead and the air changes.

You'll find birding platforms tucked into the forest, benches placed at viewpoints, and quiet corners designed for sitting and listening. The koi pond, the hummingbird garden, the lookout points over the valley β€” each space has its own character and its own invitation.

No guide needed for the trails, though one is always available. Some of the best moments here happen when you wander on your own and let the forest surprise you.

Birding

Rio Blanco is one of Colombia's premier birding destinations, with over 500 species on the eBird list. Owl's Watch sits right inside it β€” with four in-forest platforms, guided tours, and our own eBird hotspot. Whether you're a serious lister or someone who's never held binoculars, the birds here will stop you in your tracks.

Our feeders draw toucans, antpittas, and tanagers within arm's reach. Endemics and rare migratory species turn up regularly β€” and no two visits are alike. Every trip to Owl's Watch comes with its own birding surprise.

But here's what surprises people: you don't have to be a birder to love this. There's something about watching a hummingbird hover three inches from your coffee cup that transcends any hobby.

The Enchanted Forest

Behind a wooden door guarded by a gnome and an owl, a trail winds into the oldest part of the forest. Along the way you'll find magic wands resting on mossy logs, crystal balls catching the light, sleeping gnomes in leafy hammocks, carved faces in ancient trees, hidden doors that no one can quite explain, and a dream catcher hung from a low branch to filter out bad dreams.

The Enchanted Forest was inspired by the fantasy books Dennis read as a kid β€” the same imagination that once built forts in the woods behind his childhood home. It's playful, surprising, and quietly magical. Kids love it. Adults love it more than they expect to.

Walk gently. Keep your eyes open for wonders. And remember: the owls are always on duty.

Stillness & Wellness

Something happens when you unplug. When there's no schedule, no notifications, no noise β€” just the sound of the forest and the space to breathe. Within a day or two, something shifts. You slow down. You sit longer. You start noticing things you haven't noticed in years.

Yoga with hummingbirds at eye level. Meditation in the garden. Forest bathing along the trails. A good book in a chair by the fire. A mindfulness talk under the open sky. These are here if you want them β€” and if you'd rather just soak in the jacuzzi under the stars and do nothing at all, that's just as good.

This isn't a program. It's a place where the conditions for rest already exist. You just have to show up.

Beyond the Property

While most guests find more than enough to fill their days on the property, we can arrange excursions to nearby birding sites at different altitudes β€” including Hacienda el Bosque and the TinamΓΊ reserve, offering different habitat zones and species.

Manizales itself is worth exploring β€” a vibrant Andean city with excellent coffee culture and a gateway to the wider Coffee Axis region. We're happy to help you plan any off-property adventures.

β€œWe are not birders, but this experience was so special. Seeing Juan Carlos' knowledge and excitement around the birds made us feel very enthusiastic. Don't miss the 6km of trails β€” each has something special to offer.”
